Aunt Gertie's Boiled Raisin Cake


2 cups flour
2 cups raisins 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar 
1/2 tsp. mace
1/2 tsp. cinnamon 
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. baking powder
2 eggs 
1 tsp. cocoa  


Simmer raisins in water. Drain, reserving 3/4 c. water. Add soda to water and set aside to cool. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, Sift dry ingredients and mix in alternately with raisin water. Add raisins. Bake in 9 x I3"" pan for 35 min.
